Following our theme of special finishes today we will be looking at adding a spot UV to your product.
To have your product stand out from your competitors or other publications it is very important to grab their attention with your front cover. A simple but striking way of drawing attention to an image on your cover is using spot UV. This is different to the UV gloss laminate mentioned last week as it is more selective and can draw attention to certain areas of the page.
The area that you have chosen to spot UV can be any size and anywhere on the cover. Not only does this catch the light and stand out it can be another way of adding different textures to the page leading to some interesting design possibilities. The spot UV does not have to be applied in a certain shape or way, it is even possible to have it in a mesh effect. A designer may want to take this further.
The designer can combine finishes to make their catalogue, magazine or brochure really engage with their audience.
A style that is proving a popular choice is to combine a matt laminate with the spot UV to create a very striking and interesting effect. The eye will be drawn to the shiny spot UV but the texture of the laminate can add a different texture and contrast. The huge potential for customisation means that your cover can be truly unique. The designer can combine finishes to make their catalogue, magazine or brochure really engage with their audience.
