Warners Breaks Speed Record and Wins Award
Warners Midlands plc, one of the UK’s largest independent printer of magazines, catalogues and brochures, has announced it had received a much coveted industry award after a record-breaking 30-hour production run in the new print hall at the company’s Manor Lane, Bourne site.
The record-breaking bid involved Warners staff racing against the clock to bind 400,000 copies of a 96-page colour magazine in less than 30 hours. The marathon production run covered three complete shifts and involved the Swiss-made Muller Martini Corona perfect binding equipment running at a maximum speed for 29.49 hours (taking only a 2-minute break). After printing the 96-page magazine on Warners new, state of the art web-offset printing presses, the customer requested a square back finish to the publication (otherwise known as ‘perfect bound’) and the Warners perfect binding team saw this job as the ideal opportunity to test the performance of the new binding equipment and to break a long-standing record.
Muller Martini recognised Warners incredible production achievement by presenting a large Swiss Cowbell to the company with the inscription ‘Perfect Binding Performance Excellence 2008’. Receiving the award was Warners Perfect Binding Manager Paul Steed watched by members of his team.
At the presentation of the Award, Muller Martini Area Sales Manager Garry Huggett said: “Controlling paper at high speeds isn’t easy and requires great skill and teamwork. Warners is one of our best customers and we are continually impressed by its willingness to invest in new technology and its workforce, and to push the envelope of what is possible in printing and production performance.”
