Yesterday we hosted the Mayor of Bourne Paul Fellows for a day of work experience. Paul has previously done days of work experience at other businesses in Bourne to get a better idea of what goes on in our town.
The day would prove to be very different from the site tour Paul and the Bourne Council had a few years ago. After his induction and a shorter tour around the facility to re familiarise him with the site Paul first worked on our mailing lines. He worked on several weekly magazines that were being mailed that day by preparing the bundles for Royal Mail to collect. In the afternoon Paul moved around our Bindery department working on several different machines. Here he would see how a printed product is finished ready for customer use.
Over the course of the day Paul readily admitted how much knowledge he had been able to pick up regarding the process from the operators and had a new level of appreciation for the work that goes on behind the scenes at Warners. The most pleasing aspect for me however was seeing how much Paul enjoyed his day with us. From conversations with his colleagues for the day and his own observations it seems very clear that he felt right at home. In fact we might see if Paul would like to come back for a few more days!
